In a blink of eyes, Bestie is going back to Glasgow with her baker and my god son. Feels weird to wish her a safe trip home since her home is here. Haha.
So I shall wish you all a safe trip back! Be safe and take care there. Hoping to have you all back at year end.
So sorry that I missed god son's 1st Bday party, I promised I will take another day off to accompany him on your next trip back and make up for my absence the other day.
‘
Till then baby and Bestie, remember to train him to call "干妈"
Marriage is not only a union of 2 person deeply in love, its a beginning of a long long learning process...

Now reading-Empress Dowager Cixi (慈禧太后)
I remembered visiting The Forbidden City (故宫) in Beijing back in 2007 and was wowed by the magnificence of it. Took us 2 hrs to walk from 1 end to the other straight through. My tour guide was still joking with us that 1 of us might be a princess/ concubine / servant here in our previous life.
Born and raised in modern Singapore where my family don't practice favoritism on boys over girls, I totally cannot comprehend how women during the olden times took it in their stride that they are of lower status than men.
Anyways saw this book in Popular the other day and was super tempted to buy but was too bulky. Then I walked past the shop last night and realised there's a 20% off store wide for English titles and immediately went to get this book. Hahah How auntie..
My impression of Empress Dowager Cixi is only limited those shown in various dramas. More often than not, she was portray as a villain responsible for the downfall of Qing Dynasty. But how did a woman at that time managed to garner so much power to control the male dominated dynasty was interesting, at least to me.
Having only read through 3 chapters of the book, it strikes me that she is actually smarter and more far sighted that those portrayed in the dramas. But then again, its dependent on how the writer wants to portray her.
It is an interesting book, having to read the descriptions of the Qing dynasty in english is somewhat different. I struggled to try to understand some of the description since am more familiar with the chinese descriptions or words. Nevertheless, I think I am gonna enjoy this book.
Life is good when you find 1 good book to read every now and then. Brings me peace and relax my mind.

Now reading-Chicken Soup for the Soul
The last time I read the chicken soup for the soul series was when I was in secondary sch. I love their short stories, inspiring, humourous, touching...Its one of those books that you can relax while reading the short stories..
Recently, not sure why its back in the trend again, Popular is having sales on the series and I took the chance to buy "The Magic of Mother & Daughter" title. This is especially close to my heart, having being beri close to my mum, sharing nearly everyting with her and vice versa..
When I was pregnant back then, I was secretly hoping for a gal, wishing the trait of close mother & daughter ties will pass on to my next generation, I too want to become my gal's mum & best fwen, just like my mum & I...
Although I had lost my child, I had not lost hope in getting pregnant again, reading the many stories inside makes me reflect on my relationship with my mummy, some are similar to wat we went thru, some shed light on how the older generation feel on certain issues, some can prepare me to better handle my daughter shd I be blessed with 1..
Reading it, lightens up my mood while savouring the stories of others, at time, reminding me of my own...
I hope, 1 day, I will be able to note down the little stories of my daughter and I, remembering the details of her growing up, from a baby to toddler, to a school child, to teenager and finally leaving me to start another family of her own.. This, would be the greatest thing in life, for a daughter is a mother's gender partner, her closest ally in the family, an extension of her self :)

Packing away...
As the renovation day draws near, I need to start packing as in NOW!!!The thing is, 4 yrs ago, when we shifted in, we juz brought 1 luggage each of clothes..4 yrs down the road, the room is full of things, not to mentioned, half the storeroom and part of my living room..
Damn, how did we accumulate so much things in juz 4 yrs?Even my wardrobe is threatening to burst any time soon..But but, I remember doing clean springing every yr, throwing away unwanted stuff and giving away clothes that I outgrown..
Anyhow, the packing has started..With Ah yi saving boxes for me frm her shop (Thanks Ah yi!!)I can slowly start to pack b4 moving the boxes to the room tat is not affected by the renovations once my tenants shift out...
Juz the 2 book shelfs alone, I packed 3boxes, plus a box of plastic contaniners tat I "saved"over the yrs..I reckon they will come in useful on I haf my own kitchen..Lucky for us, if not me onli, we didnt overhaul the whole hse, thus I am able to store things in the 2 rooms..MBR, study room are down, along with the toilets & kitchen..But store things in kitchen & living room?heheh...Ohhh I still have my trusty store room, which is essentially a war zone, with my tenants removing their things..I still realli dare to go look inside..
Well, store room can wait till they move where I have a few days of leave b4 moving on to my new job...Agggrrrr all the packing and spring cleaning....

Now Reading
I came across this book when I was in Harris 2 days ago while waiting for hubs to finish shopping for his IPAD 2 accessories. Its been quite a while since I last visit Harris, maybe 1 mth ago? I had long finished all the books I last brought.
This time, this book I brought is titled "Nothing to Envy" with narrators recounting the lives in North Korea.
North Korea is easily said to be 1 of the most mysterious country in the world. Worlds apart from its' neighbours or former partner, South Korea. While South Korea is moving forward with the times, North Korea however seems to be stopped moving or rather been moving backwards.
I had always been curious about life in this country where rumours said that they are eating tree barks due to lack of food.
Been half way thru the book onli but it is enuff to send chill down my spine by reading how the plp survive and how they lived under the ruling of their supreme leader..It is realli an eye opener with real life accounts from the defectors telling the author of encounters there..Man, it makes me count my blessing to be born in Singapore once again..
