We reached Taipei Main station at around 13:00 and brought 14:28 train tickets which gives us quite a long waiting time at the station. I actually wanted to make a trip to Long Shan temple during the wait since it is 2 stops away only but decided otherwise as we both are lazy.
Instead we hung around the station and I seized the chance to coax Mr Love to drink coffee with me at 7-11 so as to be able to buy the Rilakumar Pen at NTD50 hehe. We brought quite a lot of snacks while at it.

Brought a slower but cheaper express train tickets since are not in a rush to reach Yilan. The ride is around 2 hours and the feasting starts once the train move out from Taipei station.

Caught a little nap on board the train and reached Yilan at 16:30. It was still early but raining and we walked around near the train station while waiting for the onion pancake van to start operations.
I came across a shop selling accessories and brought 2 pairs of earring at NTD100 each within 5mins. Hahah Mr Love by now thinks I have gone mad with the purchases of earrings and he cannot do anything to stop my obsession. Hehe

By 5:15pm the Onion pancake van is still not open yet and we have a bad feeling that it is not going to be in operation today because of the heavy rain. Took refuge in KFC nearby the van so that we can keep a lookout for it and brought a set meal to share while we are here.
Saw smoke from far away and realised fire broke out somewhere when we saw fire engines and ambulances racing past the street in front of us. But it seems to be pulled out after 15min. Efficient I would say.

At around 6pm, our patience ran out and therefore decide to give the onion pancake van one last check before making our way to Dongmen Night Market.
Turns out it is really not in operation, we gave up and walk to the nigh market down the street. Went back to find the fried finger food store and brought 2 chicken skins and 1 portion of fried chicken cubes to share.

We walked to the 2nd alley in hope to find main course to fill our stomachs before leaving Yilan. It was disappointing that the Onion pancake van was not in operation today but we still gotta eat right
Came to a hotplate noodles stall and decide to have this again for dinner. The version sold here is a bit cheaper than it's Taipei counterpart.

Noodles used here are not spaghetti but udon noodles, giving it a different taste as compared to other versions we ate. Udon noodles are more succulent and can take in the gravy better. The portion here is also quite big and it comes with free flow wheat tea which quench our thirst quite effectively.

Its around 7pm by the time we finished the noodles and we went to buy 1 last round of finger food to eat on the train back to Taipei. Brought 3 more sticks of chicken skin at 1 go and the lady boss was amused at us for eating 5sticks in a night.

And so it concluded our little day trip to Yilan though we didn't get to eat the much craved onion pancake but we did enjoy the food here too.
On the way back to Taipei, I finally got Mr Love to switch on the hotspot for me to connect to 3G and got anxious texts from partner that a senseless killing occurred in Taipei and she just wanted to know whether we are safe. Didn't hear any news while we are there but nevertheless we assured her our safety.
When we reached Taipei, there is a huge presence of police in all the MRT stations, didn't know the reason until we reached hotel room and watched the news.
You know how much I thank the our lucky stars and the various gods watching and protecting us? The killing happened on the line that we took today and transferred to zoo. We might be taking the same train as the killer when he took the train and turned back before he start the killing. I was planning to visit Long Shan Temple, the station where he start killing once the train move out from.
We could have met the killer should we didn't make an impromptu decision to go Yilan earlier by taking a slower train there. There are so many what if but I am glad we are safe and sound in the room. An earthquake this morning and a senseless killing in the evening. First time we got scared in Taipei.
The very next morning, I posted a photo of us in FB assuring our family and friends that we are safe and would be careful. That didn't stop mummy from worrying about us.
