Ga Ya Geum Korean Family Restaurant

Been craving for Korean cuisine for the longest time and was searching for recommended restaurant in Singapore. Came across quite a few recommendations for Ga Ya Geum Koream Family Restaurant located in Bukit Timah shopping center and was interested to try it out.

The joke is, I keep mistaking it for Bukit Timah Plaza where we frequently visit the supermart there and happily asked Mr Love to go there for a groceries shopping cum dinner trip. End up, we didn't to eat the 1st time we went in search for it.

Got smarter the 2nd time and managed to locate the restaurant in basement 1 of the shopping center. The restaurant was pretty small in size and was quite busy when we reached at 7.30pm.

Managed to get a seat 15mins later and we started to order. The owners/ are all Koreans based on their accent but they can all understand simple English.

The menu is in Korean with English translation below. From the reviews, the fried chicken, pancake and ginseng chicken soup are recommended and so we order these to share.

Side dishes
We didn't order any drinks and was given a bottle of ice water instead just like what you see in the tv series. Side dishes were also served, was particularly in love with the kimchi which is a bit spicy. Would love it if it is refillable like some other Korean restaurant.

Seafood pancake (Small, SGD12) was served first and we dig in greedily.  Ingredients were generous and fresh. The chilli and spring onion added flavour to the pancake. Before the next dish was served, we already ate up most of it.

Given how much I love soup, this is a must order (SGD 15). A bowl of rice was given along with it. I wanted to order 1 each but was afraid of over ordering. Chicken was well cooked but not over. Therefore the chicken meat was soft. But the ginseng taste wasn't that strong. The plus point of it is that you can taste how fresh the chicken is since it is not covered up by the ginseng taste.

Mr Love love this dish surprisingly and ate quite a bit too. The other thing I noticed is that glutinous rice inside was too little. The version we had while in Korea had quite a lot of the glutinous rice.

Nevertheless I love this dish all the same. Would order it if we are here again.

Ginseng chicken soup

Lastly is Korean fried chicken in soy sauce. Did not order the spicy version. This dish is also why Mr Love agreed to come here. Muhaha. It's a bit pricy though. Small portion cost SGD 16 for 3 full wings. But I think most of the Korean restaurant here priced the same.

The wings are really crispy though even when it cooled down. I would love to try the spicy version the next time though.

Most table here ordered 1 portion of the fried chicken wings. This goes to show much popular this dish is for this restaurant.

The bill came up to 50+bucks which is pretty acceptable for the standard of the food served here. Would visit here more often when I have craving and try out other dishes on offered.
