Old wives' tales..

Being chinese, I should say we cannot avoid some superstitious beliefs, especially with our mums nagging beside us. I had 2, my own and my hubs' who passed their beliefs to me, hoping I can follow the customs.

米桶 aka rice container

We believe that rice container should be full so as to ensure that we have abundant rice to eat throughout the year. As we do not do much cooking, so I filled it to 3/4 full, okie la, at least did fill up rite?

My 3/4full 米桶
冰箱 aka fridge

Actually there is no old wives' tale to fill up the fridge I think, but then we muz at least store fish (年年有余), chickie, met & seafood...Not sure of the meaning behind them but then, I did as wat I was told. Woke up at 6.30am 1 fine sat morning to do the marketing. A funnie sight though, walking in the wet markets with all the aunties..Man, I am an auntie now aso rite?

Tupperwares filled with the food I brought
 蒜

Its some onion like looking veggie that has the same prounication with "算" which means count in mandarin. By hanging 5 stalks (at the insistent of my 2 mum) it means get to count in hokkien. I took quite a long time to figure out where to hand them in my kitchen..hur hur...

Can you count 5 stalks of them?
Wardrobe

No 1 told me this, and I came up with it myself. heee... I make sure I did all the ironing and filled my wardrobe to its brim. To me, this has the same theory as the rice container, tat is to ensure I have abundant of clothes to wear throughout the year. This is especially important to me..hehehe..So there, I have just added 1 more tale to the old wives' tales.

My bursting wardrobe
