Gambling, the new social problem

Having been to Genting over the wkend, I muz say its an eye opener. Stepping inside the casino, where there are endless tables of different games, countless of gamblers makes me wonder, why will someone be addicted to gambling? How can some 1 stay in the casino for so long?

I went in there at about 5.30am on the morning when we reached Genting, all is quiet inside, calm and peaceful but with a steady flow of gamblers even at this time of the day. The smoking area were filled with smoke but as compared to the day time, its considered mild. We moved about in the casino while observing how others played the game, with Grace occasionally explaining to us..

The point is, when I next checked my watched, its oredi 8.30am and I didnt even realised that.It suddenly dawned on me that becuz of the design of the casino, the ambience was designed to be felt like time didnt move at all. There are no windows and thus 1 will be able to see the skies outside which 1 depends to know the time of the day.

Thus, in this way, even though time had already moved 3hrs forward, we werent able to detect. I wasnt able to tell that day break is here and sky has lighted up. It felt like it is still at 6.30am only. I guess, this is how the gamblers lost track of time and end up gambling without day and night..Scary huh?

Later in the day, while we were there after our 2nd breakie, I saw plp quarrelling over the chips that they bet. Turns out that, if you dun bet the min. amt stated on the table, you can "joint venture" to bet. Thus, this will sometimes cause dispute among the gamblers who placed different bets..The grp argued for a good 10min w/o coming to any agreements..Even the croupier gave up trying to help..We walked away before the resolve the issue. According the Grace, if the issue is not resolve, the staff will then take down the particulars of the gamblers and check the CCTV to confirm the bets.

When we went in the afternoon (to get a drink), the casino was packed to the brim, thick cloud of smoke filled the air, making it difficult for me to breath properly when I walked thru the smoking section to the non-smoking section in order to get a drink. Mr Love and I were wondering how BH can stand sitting the in the smoking section for so long while..It was later than we learnt that even as a smoker, he cannot stand the smoke there. I guess is the gambling kick in him makes him tahan for so long.,,

We aso observed there seems to an equal ratio of men to women there. Plp screaming as the croupiers deal the cards, some making noise when they lose, some folding the cards as they check their cards, the ugly side of plp, you can all see it here. I wonder how many of them realli walked out of the casino winning?

Gambling is a vicious cycle, if you win, you wanna win more, if you lose, you wan to recuperate the loss, either way, you will keep sinking deeper. Actually how many of them realise this?

With the opening of 2 casinos in Singapore, this will soon add to the social problem in Singapore. Gambling is without age limits after all (of cuz besides underage). As long as you have the capital, you may go in and put your stake. But how many of them realli walked out of the casino with the monies they 1st brought in intact? Let alone say make a killing in the casino? You may win this time, but it will onli encourage you to bet bigger stakes the next time you go in order to win more. You neber know when you will be losing it all to the casino.

The best way to over come this problem? Dun start at all, so that you will not get to feel the feeling of winning or losing and thus will not be addicted to it..
