We caught the train and proceed to next destination- Pingxi/Pingsi (平溪)。Since this railway line is named after this station, the least we can do is to come here and take a look isn't it?

Pingxi station |
The 1st sight that greeted us is a small station with a small co-op and a row of unopened shops. As far as I can see, this town is even more quiet than Shifen. There are not much tourists here too. But since we are quite hungry already, we decided to go around the town to search for something to fill our stomach.

A very quiet street |
We came across a shop that sells sausages and seems like it is a popular shop. It was featured in 1 of the popular Taiwanese variety show. Was excited to find 1 such shop and quickly join the queue and grab lunch.

Close up of our lunch |
There are quite a large variety of sausages sold here and we ordered 2 different flavour. The shop owner will then heat up the sausages we ordered before adding the sauces for upon finishing.

Though the queue was pretty short, we wait quite long for our order to be ready. Cannot imagine what if the queue is long.
The wait was actually worth it as the sausage is succulent and since it is served piping hot, the juice flows out once you take a bite.

Grilled to perfection |
There is also a section in this shop that sells souvenirs of Pingxi - Sky lanterns. But since we brought what we need from Shifen just down, thus I did not buy from here and besides the price here is higher.
But I did managed to see a nice photo frame decorated with sky lanterns around the border. It was a simple frame but to my liking. The shop owner was puzzled at my choice as it seems like no 1 was interested in it for a long time. He sold it happily to me at NTD50(SGD2.50).

We finished the sausage in no time and proceed to look for something else to eat. Spotted a shop selling fried chicken and brought 2 servings at 1 go. Hehe

Chicken cutlet |
It was a hot day today with us eating so much heaty food, thus I went in search for a drink to buy to cool us down. Saw this shop selling grass jelly drink and brought a large cup to go along with the fried chicken we brought.

We found a spot in between the alleys and sat down to enjoy our lunch. It faces a drain between houses. Sat there chatting while eating our lunch and also to rest our tired legs.
|
Temple spotted up high |
We walked around the town after lunch to explore. There is nothing much here really, though I see some shops offering services for releasing sky lanterns but there doesn't seems to be anyone doing so here.
And we passed the place where the famous Taiwanese Movie, You are the Apple of My Eyes (那些年,我们一起追的女孩)shoot the scene of the main characters releasing their sky lantern. I didn't watch this show when I was here, it was later then I realised I been here.

Empty street |
The day was unbearably hot and we were so relieved to see a shop selling ice cream on our way back to the train station. Of course, we brought 1 ice cream each to cool ourselves down and walked slowly back to the station.
|
Happy wit my ice cream |
Timing for next train back to Ruifang is at 15:21. Since we still have time to kill, I went into the co-op at the station to do some shopping.
|
Single track |
Tracks in Pingxi is of single which means at any 1 time, only 1 train is allowed to travel on the tracks. Trains can stopped at the stations where there are 2 tracks to wait for the other to pass before moving on. But since frequency is pretty low here, there isn't much waiting to be done here.

We got bored waiting at the station and started to take silly pictures of ourselves at the station much to the amusement of other passengers. I also passed them by playing with the other kids waiting for the train to come.

Too bored, so we played with ant |
An idea suddenly strike me, since the train that is arriving 1st will goes to Jing Tong (菁桐) before turning back to Ruifang, we decided to board the train that goes to Jing Tong. But due to time constraint, we did not plan to visit Jing Tong. It was a regret since it seems to be a interesting place.

While waiting in the train |
We got down the train at Jing Tong to take some photos and re-board it. Didn't get to go explore that place but it seems to be more busy than Pingxi. Shall come back again the next time and skipped Pingxi.
