Taipei Revisited 2011- Releasing sky lanterns in Shi Fen Street (十分老街放天灯)

We came back to Shi Fen street and randomly chose a shop to purchase the sky lantern (天灯) to release as a form of wishing. The lantern is made of colour papers with a opening at the bottom where a small fire is suspended.

Different colour papers signified different types of wishes one wants to made. For example, red is for health, yellow for wealth, blue for career etc.
Mr Love writing down his wishes
You can either purchase 1 colour lantern or multi colour 1s. Then the shop owner will hang it up on a rack for you and provide you with brushes for you to write your wishes down. Dunno what to write? Fret not, as they have 1 list of wordings for you to copy onto your lantern but all in Chinese.

Being the kiasu Singaporeans and accountants, of course we brought the most valued for money version - 4 coloured lantern at NTD150. Can made 4 kind of wishes at 1 go instead of releasing 4 lanterns.

Writing down my wishes
It took us quite sometime to write down our wishes or rather copied down whatever it is on the list. Got tired towards the end and just randomly picked some words to copy. My chinese writing sucks big time in my opinion.

The red side
After you confirmed that you are ready to release the lantern, the shop owner will prepare the burning papers for lighting up the lantern. Since there was no other customers, he helped us to take quite a few photos while we post with the lantern on the tracks.

Blue side
I even got him to take pictures with my polaroid camera. Haha.

Pink side

Yellow for wealth
After much photo taking, we decided to release the lantern before a train comes along. The shop owner then lit up the papers and took 1 final photo for us with the lantern and then taught us the correct way of releasing the lantern.

Up, up and away!
Because of the good weather, we were able to observe quite a long time to see where our lantern is going. It is believed that the longer the lantern is in the sky, the more chances we get our wishes fulfilled.
Still watching out of our lantern
We then decided to catch the 12.45 pm train to our next destination - Pingxi station which is 3stops away. Travelling time would be 12mins.

Random transportation train
Shifen street is pretty quiet today with only a few shops opening. We did buy quite a few sky lanterns miniatures here. Did some bargaining with the shop owner and got a great deal haha.

The weather is killing me and I popped into the provision shop along the street in search of some drinks to quench my thirst. Found a malt milk tea which tastes expectionally nice at NTD 10 only. Lovely.

Train approaching
Waited for quite a while for our train and was dying with hunger already. Hopefully, Pingxi would have more choices of food for us.
