台湾春天之旅 2013- Danshui Old street (淡水老街),Shihlin Night Market (士林夜市)

We board a bus bounded for 北投  here and then decided to visit Danshui Old street again since its too early to go to any night markets. 淡水 is 6 stations away from 北投 on Damshui Line. On our last visit to Taipei, we made a mistake to come here during wkends and ended up having a bad day due to the crowd. Madness I would say, couldnt even walk, was being pushed along by the crowd only.
Gloomy day, but cool for outdoors

This time round, as its a wkday, Danshui is empty and due to the cooling weather, we had a great time strolling on the street along the river. Here, I took some time to do some shopping for the few I would need to buy things for. Didnt buy much but I did manage buy most of the gifts I needed to get here.

Shops that sells 古早味 toys

We spent quite sometime walking ard here and came across a shop that sells handmade handicraft. Brought a photo stand here with our zodiac signs (pig and rat ) on it. Liked the idea that the shop owner proposed. We can go back to add in our children's zodiac in future. How sweet can it get? I do hope, 1 day when we are blessed with children, we will go back and add in their zodiac signs :)

The shop owner was very friendly and chatted with us for a while. She was curious on where we got the calla lilies and though us its quite expensive to buy at a florist down town. When we told her that we go them from YMS, she was shocked that we came such a long way to Dan shui. Hehe.

Got hungry and wanted to grab a bite before we go off and we saw 豪大大鸡排!! We didnt noe there is a branch here besides Shihlin night market. So we brought 1 to share. Its more cooling to eat here..Under the cooling weather, by the river side..Heheh..

Buying the chickie cutlet. There is no Q here!

We decided to end the trip here and moved on to 士林夜市 as it was getting dark. Didnt want to be caught in the dinner crowd. On top of it, we heard that the food section has relocated, and I didnt noe where it relocate to. Not sure whether we will be able to find or not.

We exited 剑谭 station and look abit lost, then I decided wat I excel in, randomly follow someone who look like he/she going to the same place as I am. Hehe It works so far..And so, we followed some 1 to the new food section of 士林夜市。

Walking to the new 士林 food section
It is actually just across the old food section of the 夜市 besides the appraels section. There used to be a building here that have a whole level of pets shop and games arcade. I guessed it made way for the new food section. The old food section is under construction now to develop some residential or hotel.

The new food section is located at B1 and at any 1 time, due to safety reasons, there is a controlled number of people allowed to enter. There is a board indicating no. of visitors at B1 at the moment. Am not sure who will stop if gets fill up as it was not crowded when we went.

New food section at B1
Above the food section, there are rows of stalls selling all kinds of merchandises. From accessories, to toys, to hp covers, to umbrellas, to fruits etc. We walked ard here for a while as am still full from the food we ate at Danshui. Hehe..Managed to buy some cute earrings here and a bracelet all at NTD100..Its a steal!

Some people cannot understand why I am so proud to be able to buy cheap accessories and wear them proudly. Hahah But I look at it as an accomplishment to be able to find cute, pretty and cheap accessories to match my outfits. Say wat you wan, I am proud of my cheap buys. Hahah.

Shops above the food section
We decided to check out the food section after walking 1 round and went down. It looks more tidy as compared to previously location. But the ventilation is CMI (cannot make it). We were greeted by a thick cloud of smoke when we enter as we were near the teppan yaki stall. Immediately we stood at 1 side, took off our jackets which we still need to wear for the next few days. Luckily, I brought spare foldable bags along as our backpacks are full from purchases. hehee Can keep the jackets well to avoid staining on the cooking smell. I cannot comprehend why others are able to wear their coats and jackets while walking/eating here.

1st look
The layout had changed and thus we have to walk 1 round to find the usual stalls we patronised and also new 1s to try out. I must say, it looks much organised now but space is still pretty constraint. Not really like the B1 location and I cannot imagine the crowd on wkends. Will be so suffocating.

Stalls
We sat down and ordered 1 teppan yaki chickie to share. The stall helper was stealing glances at us as we shared the portion. Hahaha I told hubs that he might be thinking "this poor couple, no monies to eat, so shared 1 portion." Haha.. Dun care, I am still full from Danshui and I wanted to try other things out.
铁板鸡排
Moving on, we came across a stall that sells buns with chickie or pork stuffings that they baked/roast the bun till cripsy. Not sure of the name and didnt manage to take a photo. But it tastes heavenly when served piping hot. We ordered 1 pork bun and the sauce from the baking/roasting process was dripping as we bite into the bun. It would be better if we took it out and eat under the cold weather at 13deg. Hurhur.

台湾香肠
I learnt to eat Taiwan sausage from our 1st trip to Taiwan (previously dun take at all) and fell in love with it. Everytime when we visit Taiwan, we would feast on the 香肠. This particular stall in 士林 sells ass kicking 1 and although the price is steeper than other vendors, we would always buy 1 portion from this stall whenever we visit :)

Opening hours
After all the feasting
We decided to move on to the apparels section after all the eating. It seems like 士林夜市 expanded and there are alot more stalls den we rememebered from our last 2 visits. At 1 point, we couldnt figure out where we were. Haha. We brought nothing from here though, just walking ard and doing window shopping and checking out the food stalls more.
Apparels section
Mr Love wanted to buy a hp cover and after checking out every available stall in the night market, we realised the price here is same, if not higher than back home. Pointless to be buying here and we gave up. But I must admit, their designs here are far more nice than the 1s back home, only tat Mr Love is looking for simple designs only. Hehe

Getting crowded. Uh-oh
We decided to call it a day at 10pm and went out to find the exit. I found the familiar underpass that will bring us back to JianTan mrt :).
Singapore cuisine spotted in 士林夜市
I must admit, we are not able to eat as much as compared to our 1st visit here 3 years ago. Perhaps is due to age, perhaps the 1st time novelty is gone. But nevertheless, we love visiting Taiwan night markets. Food are cheap and of great variety. I especially love checking out the cheap accessories in their night markets. You neber know what treasures u can find here, just need to be patient. Clothes wise, as I am too big sized haha, I usually dun have any luck buying here. Their gals seems to be all wearing size 0.
