Birthday trip to KSL & Legoland- Booking and getting to KSL

This year since Mr Love is unable to apply any leave during March to go on a trip with me, we decided to go somewhere near for a weekend getaway. Since bro asked us to go on a trip to Legoland, we figured why not stay for a night in JB so that we can rest after the outing.

Checked out the prices in Singapore travel agencies and found that most of them are overpriced. While a day trip costs SGD 68 which includes entrance tickets, 2way transport, to include overnight in KSL hotel will cost SGD199 each.

So I went in search of another option hoping it would be cheaper. Realized if we booked directly with KSL hotel, cost would be SGD125 each after taking into considerations exchange rate for credit card. The hotel room rate is discounted price if you book Legoland tickets with them.

The total cost can be break down as follow:

1 night in Deluxe Double or twin : MYR 211 (discounted price )
Legoland tickets : MYR140 each
Bus to&fro Legoland from Hotel: MYR40each
Buffet breakfast: MYR 41 each

I decided to book the hotel's buffet breakfast for all since I didn't know whether there would be any breakfast joints nearby and since mummy is going with us, I don't want her to go hungry. If it was the 3 of us only, I would have skipped this altogether.

Turns out that there are a few coffee shops around the hotel though we didn't check them out. The shopping center connected to the hotel opens at 10am and if you wake up later, you can also grab breakfast there.

Getting there

There were no instructions on how to get to the hotel and the website only states that there will be signs directing us to the hotel once we clear the customs. I did however, asked my colleagues briefly how to get there since I was told it is a 10min drive away from the causeway.

It is actually until we took the wrong route.

After exiting the Malaysian customs, the correct directions should be keep right, take the ramp. After passing Petronas and Shell Petrol station, keep right and turn right at the 1st traffic light.

Go straight and  Pelangi(a pink building)will be on the right and Petron Petrol station on left. Continue until a cross junction with a car mart on the left and turn left at this junction. By this time KSL city should be in sight. The shopping mall car parks only at 10am and we had a hard time trying to locate the hotel parking which is also connected to the shopping mall.

Sounds easy right. But we took the left ramp by mistake and ended up on a highway which bro says leads to the North South expressway. Faints. Haha Luckily bro have a bit of knowledge on roads in Johor Bahru and he is able to direct us out of the maze.

We were actually running late to catch the bus to Legoland which is leaving at 9.30am every morning from the hotel. The hotel actually arranges for guests to visit Legoland on 2nd day of the hotel stay unless you specifically stated in the special request during booking.

The hotel were nice enough to call and agreed to wait for us when I told them we were nearby and because we took the wrong route, we were held up. The traffic at both customs that morning didn't help either. We took 2hours to clear both customs. Understandable, since it's a sensitive period now due to many security issues.

With the help of the hotel staff who told the bus driver to wait for us, we collected our tickets and board the bus 10min after scheduled departure time. Turns out the bus will make a detour to pick up other visitors from other hotel. This service is provided by a tour agency and I reckon they consolidate all the bookings to pick up.

Pickup from Legoland will be at 6pm. There is only 1 bus in and out from the hotel daily and so we are struck in Legoland unless we want to find our way out there.
