Birthday trip to KSL& Legoland - Legoland (Lost Kingdom, Beetle Bounce Dino Land)

The next attraction we came across is "Lost Kingdom". Looks similar to the mummy ride we have in Universal Singapore and we thought this is an indoor roller coaster like our version. Haha So the 3 of us went in happily.

On board the ride
Turns out this is pretty much a kiddo game too. There are 4 laser guns on the car itself for each player and as we move along the route, we are to aim at the green buttons and shot. There are some effects after you have accurately shot the green buttons.

Not sure of how the marks are awarded but there is a screen in front of every player in the car showing your marks. I was busy trying to take photos initially and end up having lower marks than the guys.
Group shot
We were the only player here and decided it was fun enough to go for a 2nd round. To be fair to others, the staff told us to exit and go back to the entrance again to re-enter. Haha End up there is still no one else coming for this ride.
The cars

Went a 2nd time and tried my best to take aim. But the 2 army trained guys proved to be way better than me. I keep complaining that my laser gun needs calibration since I am not able to shoot properly though I aimed. Haha. Okie la, I no skills =_='.

Our marks.
We decided twice was enough and exit the ride. Then we began posing with the various lego bricks constructed structures outside the ride. I was amazed by them, wonder how it is built. Tried to pluck 1 lego brick out but to no avail. Guessed they glued it tightly together. Hee hee..

See how happy piggy bro is

Trying to funnie

Its so hot that we decide to feed the camel water
Mr Lego Ribena is here too
We came face to face with Beetle Bounce where the ride looks seemingly harmless. Bro said the ride seems too kiddy and told us to go ahead while he hold our bags and take photos for us.

Entrance

Seat was too small for Mr Love
I started to regret a bit while getting on the seat as all others are either children or parents accompanying their children. We were the only 2 adults who were in the ride because we wanted to try. Haha

A little gal took her seat beside me as her mum did not dare to ride with her. She was too short to climb up the ride and I carried her up & down before and after the ride.
There is a little gal who sat beside me
I think she is grateful for my help cause later when we ran into her at burger king during lunch, she was smiling sweetly at me only to have me looking blankly at her till I recall who she is. Haha

Started to move
I was freaked out by the ride as it moves up. It doesn't seems that tall when we look up but when you are on it, it really looks pretty tall.

While I was making sounds, the little gal was laughing at me as she can sense my uneasiness. She was so cool about the ride that I felt embarrassed at my own fear
And it moves higher!

Scared stiff!
The ride ended and I was glad to get myself out of there while recovering from the fright.

And we saw something that makes the 3 of us excited. Dino Land, a water slide ride. Its been a long time since we went for this kind of ride. I remember we keep taking this ride when we went to escape theme park long long time ago. Although scary but it is exciting enough for me to keep taking.

Its a super hot day and we welcome the water splashing onto us to cool down and since we are all in jerseys, we reckon that we should dry up in no time. Yeah.

Water slide
Bridge leading to the watching area
We soon realised that it is prohibited to bring any bags onboard the ride and you need to leave it in the racks beside the boarding area. Deciding it is not safe since we are carrying our passports, monies, cameras with us we agreed to take the ride separately.
We are going up!

Hi!

SPLASHHHHH

Half wet on each side

Piggy will 1st watch and take photos for us on the viewing bridge and decide whether or not he want continue with the ride after we tried. Haha

Going up
Coming down
It was fun alright! The decorations inside the cave are nice too. As usual, all are built with lego. Not sure whether it is really not that scary or I am better trained since taking other rides with Mr Love before, I wasn't that freaked out by this ride. In fact I was enjoying the thrill it brings when we move down the water slide. Managed to wave my arms while the camera snaps.

And there he is!
Piggy bro decided that once was enough for this ride (I suspect he is scared) and told us to move on. I actually wanted go on again but decided not to argue.

Birthday trip to KSL& Legoland - Legoland (Boating school & Rescue Academy)

We reached Legoland after 30min of travelling and went in search for breakfast 1st. Legoland opens at 10am. There are 2 rows of shops just beside the hotel where there are some eateries here. We decided on KFC breakfast and I nearly teared when I saw the food! Pathetic is an understatement lo. There is also a convenience store here and we brought 2 big bottles of mineral water in. Food and drinks inside Legoland proves to be more costly.
See the pathetic breakie we had
Took some photos at the entrance before proceeding in excitedly. Bro stopped me from going to the gift shop and asked me to proceed to the rides 1st. It was a super hot day and more has yet to come.

Wanted to try the pose with bro but decided otherwise

Spotted outside gift shop

We came to the 1st attarction- The Driving school and went in excitedly. To our dismay this is for little kiddos to drive the cars around the circuit. Totally unsuitable for the adults. I beginning to suspect there will be more of these rides that we are too big size or too old to take.
The driving school circuits
Next we came across the Boating school and this 1 seems better. At least I see adults queuing up. Haha We decided to go for a ride while piggy bro prefers to stay outside to take photos of the surrounding and later, us.

Had told him to stay close to here since he is famous for wandering away by himself. I safe keep his passport to threaten him too. Hehe

Going to Boating school
Boats
The queue was not too long and we waited for 15min. This is the longest waiting time in our whole trip here.

Selfie onboard
The boat itself has a pedal below which you have to step on it to get the boat moving. A steering wheel for you to manoeuvre the boat left or right.

It seems pretty easy but as usual I let Mr Love take the wheel since I wanna take photos. Haha Plus, I am not so sure about my motoring skills.

As we moved out from the shore
There is nothing much interesting about this ride as you just take a tour round the water way. We took 5mins to complete the tour.
I was busy taking pics till bro shouted for me to look at him

Cause he wanted to take my pic with the rats (My zodiac sign)

But there was these 3 jokers who either dunno how to operate the boat or trying to prolong the ride time. They keep turning their boats at the same spot and at 1 point was going in the opposite direction. Think they took 15min to complete the ride. But under this unforgiving hot sun, don't think it is such a good idea.

We then came to The Rescue Academy, I had saw this being featured in 1 of the show and wanted to try it out. The 2 guys who did not know what is in store for them agreed to my suggestion. Hurhur.

Rescue Academy

Vehicles waiting to move out

This is suspose to be a competition between 4 vehicles(2 fire engines, 2 police car). Every team (Ideally 4 pax) will get on a vehicle and a staff will start off the competition. 2 persons will have to pump the vehicle to get it moving.

Once we reached the building, 2 persons will then go pump the water pumps while another 2 will use the water jet and take aim at the fire card in the building. A smiling fireman will appear if you have pump enough water accurately into the hole of the card. This is to simulate that you have put out the fire.

Then the team will return to the vehicle where another round of pumping starts to get back to the starting point. 1st team to reach wins but no prizes are given. Haha
Rescue Vehicles in action

Piggy trying his very best to keep the vehicle moving
I had the luxury of sitting back while the 2 guys puff and pump to move the vehicle. I nearly died laughing while they nearly died pumping. Haha There was only another vehicle challenging us and of course we won it easily since I have 2 guys in the team.
The 2 of them were complaining that it is super tiring and refuse to play another game with me no matter how I begged them to. I did not want to be the 1 pumping so the deal was off.
Mr Love found it fun!
This look like the legoman is holding his underwear.Haha

Opposite the Rescue academy is the Flight school. Again, the rides are for kiddos and we didn't go for it.

Birthday trip to KSL & Legoland- Booking and getting to KSL

This year since Mr Love is unable to apply any leave during March to go on a trip with me, we decided to go somewhere near for a weekend getaway. Since bro asked us to go on a trip to Legoland, we figured why not stay for a night in JB so that we can rest after the outing.

Checked out the prices in Singapore travel agencies and found that most of them are overpriced. While a day trip costs SGD 68 which includes entrance tickets, 2way transport, to include overnight in KSL hotel will cost SGD199 each.

So I went in search of another option hoping it would be cheaper. Realized if we booked directly with KSL hotel, cost would be SGD125 each after taking into considerations exchange rate for credit card. The hotel room rate is discounted price if you book Legoland tickets with them.

The total cost can be break down as follow:

1 night in Deluxe Double or twin : MYR 211 (discounted price )
Legoland tickets : MYR140 each
Bus to&fro Legoland from Hotel: MYR40each
Buffet breakfast: MYR 41 each

I decided to book the hotel's buffet breakfast for all since I didn't know whether there would be any breakfast joints nearby and since mummy is going with us, I don't want her to go hungry. If it was the 3 of us only, I would have skipped this altogether.

Turns out that there are a few coffee shops around the hotel though we didn't check them out. The shopping center connected to the hotel opens at 10am and if you wake up later, you can also grab breakfast there.

Getting there

There were no instructions on how to get to the hotel and the website only states that there will be signs directing us to the hotel once we clear the customs. I did however, asked my colleagues briefly how to get there since I was told it is a 10min drive away from the causeway.

It is actually until we took the wrong route.

After exiting the Malaysian customs, the correct directions should be keep right, take the ramp. After passing Petronas and Shell Petrol station, keep right and turn right at the 1st traffic light.

Go straight and  Pelangi(a pink building)will be on the right and Petron Petrol station on left. Continue until a cross junction with a car mart on the left and turn left at this junction. By this time KSL city should be in sight. The shopping mall car parks only at 10am and we had a hard time trying to locate the hotel parking which is also connected to the shopping mall.

Sounds easy right. But we took the left ramp by mistake and ended up on a highway which bro says leads to the North South expressway. Faints. Haha Luckily bro have a bit of knowledge on roads in Johor Bahru and he is able to direct us out of the maze.

We were actually running late to catch the bus to Legoland which is leaving at 9.30am every morning from the hotel. The hotel actually arranges for guests to visit Legoland on 2nd day of the hotel stay unless you specifically stated in the special request during booking.

The hotel were nice enough to call and agreed to wait for us when I told them we were nearby and because we took the wrong route, we were held up. The traffic at both customs that morning didn't help either. We took 2hours to clear both customs. Understandable, since it's a sensitive period now due to many security issues.

With the help of the hotel staff who told the bus driver to wait for us, we collected our tickets and board the bus 10min after scheduled departure time. Turns out the bus will make a detour to pick up other visitors from other hotel. This service is provided by a tour agency and I reckon they consolidate all the bookings to pick up.

Pickup from Legoland will be at 6pm. There is only 1 bus in and out from the hotel daily and so we are struck in Legoland unless we want to find our way out there.

Finally hit Big 3

And yes, the dreaded big 3 is here and I crossed it on 12th March. I am officially not a youth by many countries' standard. It might sound scary to hit 30 a few years back but as I neared it, it suddenly seem not that scary anymore. Haha Now 40 sounds scary to me..Hehe

Anyways there is not much celebrations this year, mostly because Mr Love is STILL under probation(6 long months!!) and we couldn't go anywhere for holidays. My March babies celebrations with the sistas will be pushed back till April as 1 of the sistas is outstation.

Mr Love however did offer to bring me for a buffet treat at any hotel of my choice to celebrate my bday and our 6th ROM anniversary which is also on the same day. After giving it much tots, I decided I wanna eat salted egg crabs at the Bukit Timah Cze Char which we used to frequent till I learnt that cooking on my own is much more economical.

He was surprise at my choice since we usually will splurge for each other during our bdays and indulge in a hotel's buffet. But I really miss eating crabs ma.

We arrange to visit on a sat evening so to have more time to savour the crabs slowly. Haha. Beside my main craving, we ordered a few some other dishes to go along.

Sambal Kang Kong
I decided to order 2 kinds of crab, salted egg and chilli. The stall here was famous for their salted egg crab when I 1st stumbled across its name online and we fell in love with it since. But we suspect they might have changed their main chef as the cooking tastes a bit different. Can consider standard dropped.

Salted egg crab
Was pretty disappointed with the taste lo, Mr Love was not impressed at all  and told me that we should start sourcing for another cze char outlet for the crabs.

Crowd here on a sat eveing is visibly lesser that when we 1st came. I guess many of them had found the standard dropping and didnt return.

Prawn paste chickie

Fried buns to go with chilli crab gravy
We updated our couple wear this year and brought the new Germany couple jerseys. Many though we were supporters of Spain when we wore our couple jerseys previously. Little did they know that non of us watched soccer. The only reason we are wearing it is because Mr Love love the materials and I wanted couple shirts. So there we are not supporting Germany for this world cup but it would be a bonus should they win. Haha

Couple wear 2014
We initially planned to take a day off on my bday itself and make a trip to the zoo since piggy bro told us that the bday person gets to enter free on actual bday. Haha Mr Love however got a report to submit on the 12th and so, there goes my plan. I ended up spending my bday running errands and sleeping the afternoon away.

However while walking around the empty shopping centres on a Wed afternoon, I managed to get a working bag for Mr Love as an anniversary pressie. The current 1 he is carrying is at least 7 years old. I remember getting it for him during his bday the year b4 we ROM. I really take my hat off him. The bag is like gonna give way anytime soon and he is still happily using it.

And since he is a super fussy person when it comes to his personal belongings, I had a hard time finding the correct bag. I know his taste well enough but it is just that the shops don't sell it. Hahah And those which are in trend now, he doesn't like. Headache.

Imagine my joy when I spotted the acceptable 1 in 1 of the small leather shop after 2hours of walking.

A quiet bday this year but I am not complaining since I can feel the love of my love ones wishing me well on this day:)

Sleepless night

It's been 4 days and the mystery surrounding the missing MH370 thickens.  With so many theories emerging but no 1 can give a confirmed answer.

Been following the updates closely since it happen so close to home. Its especially close to heart since my bro once took similar flight to Beijing via KL.

I used to think nothing about flying. To me, it's just a faster mode than cars or ships to get me to the country I wanna visit.

Don't get me wrong, I am in awe of an airplane but not in fear of it. While some might fear flying, I actually love it albeit I suffer from serious ear pains n stuffed nose during climbing and descending.
Boarding an aircraft would get me excited especially during departure flights since it would meant that I will be starting my holidays, a getaway from the hectic life back home.

But with this incident,  it starts to dawn on me that flying could be so unpredictable and dangerous. Though they say anything can happen anywhere but with the plane up high 35,000 feet from ground,  the risks just got multiple by 35,000 times. Still, I think I will continue to make my trips out when available but I think I would say my prayers more diligently during take off and landings. And would thank the pilots and divine god who managed to get us safely to our destinations.

I also learnt that it's never too mushy to let people you love know you love them. Since I come from traditional Chinese family,  we don't express our love through words. I don't remember my mummy telling me she love me for the past 30 years and I think she would cringe if I call her tonight and tel her I love her. Haha

And if I tell my 2 brothers that, I think they will book me an appointment with IMH 1st thing in the morning. The only person I will express in words is Mr Love.  This is why I insist on ending our messages with "luv u" all these years. Its not out of habit but it is remind each other the love we shared.Even though we don't express our love for our family members but we do show it through actions.

While we can turn in comfortably during these few nights, those who are waiting anxiously for their family members' return from the flight are enduring sleepless nights. Saw a few posts online about how the chief steward's daughter is trying to keep her hopes up that her dad will return. Imagine her turmoil she is going through, trying to keep her hopes up while no news came in at all for the past 4 days. Seriously I feel for her and all the others who are still keeping vigil for the return of their loves one and this makes me treasure the moments I have with my love ones.

Another post that I saw that brought tears to my eyes is the supposed broadcast message from China control tower to the missing plane telling them to keep their path if they are able to hear the broadcast and that they are given priority to land, planes are tasked to give way, weather of the destination and lastly to remind them of their love ones waiting for their return.

How sad it is to broadcast such message, holding on to the tiny hope that the plane would be able to hear and respond and all will be well after a night's sleep. Like everyone else, I wake up every morning hoping that there will be news on a brand new day be it good or bad. This is essentially for the families who needs to know how to move on from here. Hope we will hear some good news tomorrow morning when we start a brand new day.

Pray for MH 370

Woke up to this startling news this morning that a Malaysian Airlines flight bound for Beijing had disappeared.

Last contact made was an hour after it took off yesterday midnight.

Was following the news the whole day hoping that somehow it just got diverted to some nearby airport and every one is well.

As the day passes, I know is is fast becoming impossible. I mean had the plane landed safely somewhere, surely someone on that plane would have a right mind to call their love ones to check in right?

Offical updates were slow but judging from the responses from the countries as they send out search teams,  things doesn't look tat good.

Cannot imagine the turmoil that the next of kins of the passengers are going through now. It must be so hard on them.

As I prepare to turn in for the night now, I wonder how many of the families waiting for news will have to endure a sleepless night.

My thoughts and prayers are with the people on board this aircraft.  Hopefully there would be survivors if the worst did happen and may there be an answer soon to allow the families to find closure in this tragedy.

Uniquely Singapore- Pay 10bucks to our gahmen for our 30th bday

Received the reminder from ICA 2weeks prior to my 30th bday that I will need to change my IC.

Reason being, the photo on it was still the 12 year old me. I once showed a Chinese immigration officer @ Zhuhai customs my IC when she requests as she claims that I look different from my passport photo.

Told her I look MORE different from my IC photo and proceed to show her. She was amused at my 12 year old look and nevertheless let me clear the customs. Hurhur.

And so with this year where the 84's are changing our IC, it marks the end of the era where 12 year olds received their ICs. It has since changed to 15.

The thing is I don't understand why should I pay for something that I didn't ask for. I mean IC is what a country issues to their citizens. Shouldn't it be free? Its not my fault that my looks change given that I did not undergo any plastic surgery.

Anyways though with much grumbling, I tried to apply online 3days after I received the letter as I am also required to renew my passport this year with less than 2months left from the expiry date. So wanna act smart and collect both at 1 go.

Guess what, the plan backfired on me!! I am not suppose to apply for the IC until I hit my 30th bday! And I didn't know that. Happily applied for my passport 1st and then got struck at the IC part.

So, dear ICA why send me the notification letter 2wks early when I am not allow to apply earlier? Epic failed.

Now, I am struck with going down twice for the collection as I need my passport to go on a short trip next weekend. How nice.

And so, I am going to pay 80bucks to my gahmen for my 30th bday. Any chance you would consider to give me some bday vouchers?

Kdrams craze

My mummy seldom call me during office working hours as she knows I don't like to get caught doing personal things during working hours. So unless it is really urgent she will either wait for me to get off work or to give a quick call to my office line.

But today she called me at my hp at 2.30pm and I was a bit scared while picking up the call as I thought her godpa who is not battling last stage of lung cancer has passed on.

The urgent matter that she gotta call is my dad has accidentally deleted her 2nd episode of " The Heirs" that I downloaded in the Note 2 I passed to her after getting my new phone. Haha

I had downloaded a few episodes for her and had taught her how to download using the apps last night. But I guessed she forgot and anxiously called me to ask her to refresh her memory.

And she was so pissed off by my dad who deleted her show while playing with the phone. Haha I can hear her scolding him while he stood beside her while she calls me. As she has finished watching the 1st episode, she was anxious to watch the 2nd episode that my dad deleted.

So my mummy is now getting more crazy over k-dramas and am super excited that she get to watch tv shows on the go now on hp. Haha And she is so crazy enough to call me during office hours to check how to download the shows. Hurhur

30's Club

In a few days' time I will be hitting the big 3. Rather than saying that I hate aging, I think I will state down reasons why I think this phase of my life is better than the period of the last decade.

1). No more identity crisis

Everyone has identity crisis at one point or another. More so especially during your teens waiting to be transformed to an adult. At this phase of life, I am glad that I finally found my own identity.  Wife of someone, direction of career. What is left now is to continue this journey hopefully without any major hiccups.

2). Able to love yourself more

At 20s, all you think is the fun you can have. Fresh out of school into the working force, I have more enegeries to burn. Reaching 30, work life balance is the essential. I look forward to knocking off on time, go for my dinner and relax and watch a show before turning in. Totally avoid weekday nights date if I can.

3). Freedom of living

Freedom of living used to be able to go out late with Mr Love without mum interfering. Now, it has changed to being able to sleep in late on weekends without  anyone interfering. Thank god for my own house.
While I used to have a curfew and our date nights are shorter,  we now can go for an impromptu mid night movie date followed by shopping at 24 hrs supermart for groceries and sleep till 12noon on the next day.

4). In the eyes of the beholder

While in my 20s I would be greatly affected of how people judge me by my actions or words, I am now quite not bothered.  Think what you like, say what you want. If I think I am right then you are wrong in my eyes. I do not need to live by anyone's standard and need not explain my standards to you too.

5). Comfortable in my own skin and body

I used to be troubled by my size and dress sense. While I'm taller than average girls, I am also much bigger size. I remember getting hurt my 1 classmate's insensitive comment during year 1 about my dress sense (I.e T-shirts and jeans). While now I can go shopping in orchard in shorts and tees along with my trusty brikins and dun give a damn how people see my dressing. If I wanna dress up, that would be because I am in the mood,  not because I needed to. And my size? They say women who are leading a happie life are more prone to weight gain. I choose to believe this is the reason why I am growing into a barrel. Besides, I also have a hourglass body which contains more sand remember?

6).Power of spending

Of course I feel much better now that I know I can afford the things I wanna buy. For example during overseas trip now, I can afford to spend a bit more recklessly as compared to my 1st overseas trip during 21 when I only brought 300bucks to Japan since I spent most of the savings on the tour package. Imagine the amount of self control I have to exercise since everything in Japan look so purchase worthy.

7). Its ok to be alone

While I still hate eating alone but I accept it better now. In fact I don't feel the pressure of hoping to be accept into any particular group.
Just like I was once outcast by my lunch kakis for not willing to join them in after work drinking cause I don’t drink and I wish to spend time with Mr Love. The end result ? I dropped out of the group and went lunch alone for quite a while till I found someone new.
At this age, I do not need to give in to peer pressure.

8). More stable love life

At early 20s where we were just together for 3 yrs, there are alot of uncertainties present. Fast forward to 10years later, things are of course more stable though sometimes we need to spend more effort to find the sparkles back. Many a time all it takes is glance or action to know what the other party is thinking. It makes life less stressful than dating stage when we try to show the best to each other. Since we have upgraded to become family, we now try to accommodate each other when we showed our worse side.

9). Faster healing period

While I used to be more affected by setbacks in early 20s, I think I can cope better now. Would just have to keep reminding myself of how fortunate I am and count my blessings and then the troubles will seem so small that it is negligible.  Hence I bounced back from bad moods faster nowadays.

10). Appreciate better

You know the feeling of being thankful for little things in life?  I am currently in this stage. Not sure whether is due to aging. A simple thing like seeing the flowers in full bloom can brighten up my sleeply mornings.

No one will know which is the best period of your life till the end of the journey. For me, this period may or may not be the best years of my life. But looking back, I'm glad that certain things happen though not all.

Those unpleasant ones will be taken as a lesson learnt or obstacle cleared. I look forward to the next milestone.  Hopefully when I look back at 40 years old,  I am also able to document down the things I learnt and matured from the experiences.

Counting down to the big 3 in exactly a week's time.

Korean Spicy chicken stew/Dak Doritang /닭도리팅

Saw this dish prepared in Running Man episode 184 and wanted to try coooking myself. Hehe I wanted to finish using up the Korean Gochujang I have in the fridge from making Budae Jjiage.

The recipes I saw online didn't really state how much water to add and don't seems to be soupy form the pictures but the version I saw on Running man was made like a soup dish. So I decided to tweak the version a bit and cooked a soupy version.

Don't know whether I am doing Korean cuisine an injustice or not by changing the recipe here and there to suit my taste buds. Hur Hur

Here's my version

Ingredients:

500g of chicken cut into parts (brought off shelf from NUTC and cut into smaller pieces)
3 potato peeled and cut into big pieces
1 carrot peeled and cut into big pieces
5 cloves of garlic
5 thick slices of ginger
2 tbsp of Korean Gochujang
2 tbsp of Gochugaru
2 tbsp of rice wine
4 tbsp of light soy sauce
1tbsp of sesame oil

I initially tried to cook this in my slow cooker, but true to its name the whole soup doesn't boil even after 2 hours despite using hot water. Thus I transferred them to my trusty ceramic pot and cooked over stove for an hour. The chicken, potatoes and carrot were cooked nicely despite cooking for an hour only.

Cooking Method:

I mixed the gochujang, gochuharu, rice wine, soy sauce to create a paste and then mixed it well with the chicken, potaoes and carrots in a pot.

After which, I added in 1.5 litre of water/ After boiling, I lower the heat and allow it to simmer for 45min and sieve away the excess oil in between.

Just before serving, I turn the heat up again to allow it to boil and add in the sesame oil.

Verdict:

The end product is a bit oily in my opinion. Not sure whether its fromt he gochujang or the chicken but I did sieve off the excess oil while cooking.

But the soup tastes surprisingly good especially since I cooked with the chicken bones still attached. Was initially worried that the chicken and potatoes will not be well cooked since I only transferred to the stove and cooked for an hour only. But my worries were unfounded and the chicken was tender when served.

Mr Love did not like this dish though but he did drink quite a bit of the soup. But he will have to bear with me cooking Korean dishes till we get to go to Korea at the end of the year. Haha

My version of Dak Doritang

Sterotyping at its best

Caution: Super long rant that took me 1 week to write since I was pissed off at a particular conversation with someone.

A guy friend once told me that he gave up looking for Singaporean woman as partner for life as he finds most of the women here too materialistic. Similarly when I watched Hong Kong Serials, they would sometimes have a "港女" (Hong Kong Girls)character protrayed inside. This is similar to the type of girls my friend had classified most Singaporean girls he met except we don't have a name for the local version, ok maybe SPG but then its a different species of female who only go sees the good in Caucasian males.

Was chatting with a colleague a while back while walking to the train station after work and we were commenting how worrying it is for the situation at work place now. She was telling me that if she loses her job, her 3 children will loses most of  their "luxury" items like having cherries, blueberries for fruits and instead have to eat apple(only fruit her hubby will buy) only.

Most of the female friends I have told me about they contributing to the household expenses and sometimes buying items for their kids that their hubbies deem to  be too extravagant. Intsead all of them scrimp on themselves and spent on their children.

This is a very normal trend in Singapore where most mothers hold a job and bring in the bacon along with the father. Yet, they have to deal with duties of being a wife, mother, daughter, daughter in law etc etc. Even my own mum works although her 3kids give her monthly allowances.

It's is not fair to judge Singaporean girls from the way we spend. I do admit, I spend quite extravagantly. In my collection, there are LV, Miu Miu, Coach,Kate Spade and Longchamp. Yes, I indulge in luxury bags though not the very high end 1 but hey all these are brought with my own monies. My dearest hubby didn't even contribute 1 cent to my building collection.

Though I have a soft spot for designers bags, I do not have it for clothes and shoes. Am perfectly fine with buying from online blogshop if the size fits me. Since I love dressing up, I rather buy cheaper 1s and buy more than to spend a bomb on the expensive 1s.

As for shoes, I buy whatever it is comfortable for me. Which is not easy as my feet size is pretty large as compared to normal female sizes and also sensitive skin which will hurt if the shoe material is not comfortable. Thus it explains my recent obession with Melissa's flats. It's a bit on the costly side but I worked my way around it by getting the dicounted last seasons' design and of course with the help of my dear bestie who helped to bring back for me from UK.

My point is, it's unfair for guys to assume and make statements like Singaporean girls are difficult to please and maintain economically. In fact, I see alot of girls who don't need their bf/hubby to maintain their lifestyles. What we need is only the emotional maintanence which many guys failed terribly.

That being said, there are also black sheeps in the pack. There are stories of my female counterparts who demands a lot economically from their partners and will drop them like hot potatoes once their demands are not met.

But these species belongs to a minority I would say.

My friend in question in my opinion have quite a high expectations of his ideal partner. Must be slim, attractive, dress well, substain herself economically, excel in domestic chores etc. He did not specifically state these but I deduced it from our conversations when he spent a long amount of time putting down his own country girls like how we don't dress well enough to go out, how we do not know how to cook and do house work chores or simply too lazy to do anything etc.

1st thing 1st to be slim,  attractive, well dress all these requires monies. Especially looks. Know how much the bloody skin care costs? Not to mention make up. You think girls can glow naturally? Think again. We usually need either skin care or make up to achieve our looks and many a times both. To dress well needs monies too. I am not even talking about buying branded clothes. A simple dress nowadays in the shop sets you back by 60bucks. And if the dress gets recycled too often I am sure my friend would say the girl keeps wearing the same dress. While guys always complains we have too much clothes, shoes, bags, accessories, I got friends who expect their girls to dress well and look different each time they go on dates. So girls do need all those to keep changing their looks right?

So there my theory is always is, if you want to look good (on the outside) you need maintenance. To maintain,  you need monies (duh). So unless you have no expectations of your girl to look like she step out of the fashion magazine everytime you go on a date, then it's safe to say you can save monies on this area.

Besides,  if you want the girl to look good for you, shouldn't you be nice enough to pay? Who are you to request us to spend our own monies to look good for you? My hubby got no comments on my dress sense and thus he didn't need contribute anything to my dressing needs. It's just the vainpot me who have an uncontrollable urge to keep buying.

I have totally no say in the slimming part given my weight is growing exponentially every year. Don't dream of going on a diet to slim down I will not hold on to the 2nd day. Not all of us are blessed with skinny genes. So while you can think it's fine for guys to have a beer belly, please accept your girl to have fats too. My recent favourite quote off FB is " I have a hour glass figure too, just that mine contains more sand". Hur Hur.

Since everyone is talking about gender equality in Singapore, don't you think it's not fair to expect your girl/wife to cook and be well versed (then be in-charge) of all the house all chores WILLINGLY? Key word is willingly. After a hard day's work or a week, the last thing on our mind is the house work chores. I even day dream of my bed while at work. So if you think you should rest and watch tv or play the bloody PS4 during weekends while your girl/wife work her ass off cleaning the house, then you ought to take a gun and shoot yourself in the head.

Not sure about others, but in my household since both of us are contributing the equal amount to the household expenses there is no one more superior than the other. Which means to say all the duties are split equally among us. If one of us volunteers to do something that the other one is not fond of, then the person must feel grateful.

For instance I always do the ironing and folding of clothes that Mr Love is not fond off and he will gives in whenever I blast my music while ironing. During any other times, he would complaint that my music are awful. Similarly, he would wash the dishes as I have sensitive skin and I would try to help him to put away the clean ones or tidy up the dining table. On weekday nights that I prepare late night dinners for him he would always thank me. Not that he is being all polite with me, its his way of showing his appreciation.

My whole point of this entry is I am not particularly happy with how people lable Singapore women nowadays. While you think the worst of us please also do know that since we are self-sustainable, of course we would expect more of our partners. I heard from alot of my foreign colleagues that Singapore is one of the country that they see a huge number of married woman in the workforce and that they were impressed with us juggling with the many duties though not all were carried out perfectly.

You gain some, you lose some. It's never easy to strike a balance in between. Don't sterotype us by your standards. Learnt to accept that in the changing Singapore society, women had taken on an equal role with men in the household, we are no longer the dependants. Accept this and I am sure you will be able to find a Singaporean woman as your life long partner.

New Phone

A year after spotting the Pink Note 2 in Yilan, I finally get to buy a pink phone, the upgraded version though - Note 3. Haha.

Was considering for the longest time but since I did get my long waited bonus (though not much) in the end, I decided to reward myself with the new phone.

And then bug the MR to help me source the cheapest option and bring me around to buy the phone, casing and screen protector. The shop owner was amused for once I am the one buying phone instead of him. Haha

So I am in the midst of of configuring my new phone, it's a tedious process I must say since I customised my phone alot. Really cannot understand why Mr Love can change phone that fast. Then again, he dun really customised his things.

And so, presenting my new phone for the year:

Pushed back

Another bad news of the week, Mr Love had confirmed he is unable to apply leave in March. So we will have to push back our trip to Seoul. Hehe The good thing is, he is still agreeable to going to Seoul. Phew. Then again you never know till air tickets are confirmed.

I was disappointed since we always travel during my birthday and our ROM anniversary for the past few years. But work is work, there is nothing we can do. Moreover, Mr Love is sill under probation.

And so I cannot get the new CNBLUE CD that I was intending to buy there. Think they will launch on 2nd March and since I planned to be there on 12th March, am just in time to get 1 for partner and myself.

On a brighter note, it gives me more time to fine tune my planning. Not sure I am well prepared enough to make the trip. I was still gearing up to do more research and guess I should be able to do it at a more comfortable pace.

But but but I still wanna go on a trip on my birthday week. How?

Killer waves

It's official, the killer wave in office "killed" 7 of my colleagues.

It was not a good thing to witness at all though my whole department survived the attack.

To watch them pack up while continue to work and pretend everything is ok really sucks.

1 of the victim told me life still goes on.

While I am glad I survived but I cannot help but feel affected by it.

After all who knows when will be my turn?

All the best to the 7 victims. May you all managed to find new jobs quickly and hopefully we are really safe after this round.

Iron man vs superheros

Was discussing various superheros last night with Mr Love and suddenly an idea came up.

Me: " 老公,why not you be Iron man? "

He ponders for a moment and replied " Don't want, later I must iron the clothes of all superheros."

Haha. Turns out my idea back fired since he confessed in seeing a similar joke on FB.

I had not, but I was thinking to trick him into being the iron man who will do the weekly ironing and thus relieve me of the duties.

Guess I am struck in the iron lady position for the time being till I think of a better way to trick him.
