Chilled Chicken (冰冻白斩鸡)

My mum in law was telling me this new recipe she learnt and taught me how to prepare. Sounds easy and thus I decided to try it out.

Ingredients:

Chicken thighs (I brought 3)

1 piece of ginger cut into slices ( I used more as I like the taste of ginger)
5 stalks of spring onion cut into big parts
Ginger and spring onion
Ice
4 caps of rice wine
3 teaspoons of salt
3 tablespoons of sesame oil

Cooking method:

1). Heat up 1 table spoon of sesame oil in a pan
2). Throw in the ginger slices and spring onions and stir fry till fragrant
Stir fry the ginger and spring onions

3). Put in the fried ginger and spring onion into a pot of water and bring to boil

Boil in a pot of water

4). Once water is boil, dip in the chicken thighs thrice before submerging them in the boiling water and let it boil for 20minutes.

5). In another pot, put in a layer of ice in the bottom of the pot.
6). Pour in 2 caps of rice wine and salt, place the boiled chicken
7). Put in 1 layer of ice on top of the chicken and pour in 2 more cups of rice wine.
8). Add in the sesame oil
9). Cover the lit and let it chilled for 20mins

10). Cool at room temperature for 5 min and served

Verdict:

I am not sure whether I did not soak in the ice/rice wine long enough but the chicken is kinda bland. Didn't take in any of the rice wine or sesame taste. Was pretty disappointed with the results and my mum in law said this is an easy and tasty recipe.

Will experiment with longer chilling and cooling time the next round.

Ready to serve
