Taiepi 2010 Day 2-Part 3-Shih Lin Night Market (士林夜市)

Reached Jian tan Station(剑潭站) after 25 min and followed Hubs to Shilin Night Market. I am so excited can, finally visiting the oh so famous Night Market tat I heard have tons of good food!! This is the only place that Hubs is able to recall and bring me around. I guess he must have love this place enough for him to remember the details.

1st stop is Hao Da Da Ji Pai (豪大大鸡排), as it is still early in the day (5pm) therefore there are no queues hubs told me if you come later, you will be shocked/put off by the long queue. So we quickly queue up to get our chickie cutlets. Tummy ache? What Tummy ache, I think it is all cured by the presence of the cutlet. We brought 1 each and ate it piping hot. Man, it tastes really oiiiishiiiiiii......

Look MA, NO QUEUE!!whahah

We stood around to savor the cutlets before deciding to walk around and search for other food to eat before the dinner crowd starts flooding in. Pass by Taiwan sausage (台湾大香肠) but didn't buy as I don't eat sausage. But the 香肠 was really freaking big.

Freaking big 台湾香肠

Walked past a random store and decided to go in and have our dinner. Ordered a 蚝煎,卤肉饭 to share and was amazed by the price of the food there, seriously cheaper than Hong Kong and Singapore. Is really eat till you drop. We did not order much as I was bending to eat other things there, just wanna try out a little bit of everything they have to offer.

Personally, I do not fancy their oyster omlette (蚝煎) as they will put a dunno what gravy on it, thus making it soggy. Where got people eat soggy 蚝建 de? If you asked me, I would find the 1 in Hong Kong nicer. But that is my personal opinion la. Prior to eating, Hubs had already warned me about it as he himself also dun fancy the Taiwanese version, but for the sake of letting me try out, we ordered 1.

On the other hand, I quite like the Braised minced meat with rice (卤肉饭) that they serve, it is cheap at 10NTD which is around 50cents SGD and the rice is like Japanese rice/ pearl rice (珍珠米), different from the one we have in Singapore.

Moving on, we came across a stall selling 大饼包小饼, curious of what it is, we went to check it out..The skin is make up of flour (duh) and inside will have another 1 which u can choose what ingredients u wanna to be put inside.I  forgot what hubs choose but then I can remember that both of us dun really like the taste of it..It is just flour with a little other ingredients inside.

大饼包小饼。。

We then come to the stalls tat sells famous Taiwanese Shaved ice (剉冰) and we settle down quickly in the shop to get a shot of the ice in the unbearable hot weather. Since hubs is suffering from diarrhea, he didn't eat the Mango ice that I order. Instead, he ordered a fruit juice to quench his thirst.
Eating the mango ice shaving all by myself..super shiok

By the time we finished the ice, it is an understatement to say I am full , in fact I think I am so full that I could not walk fast. Decided to stop eating and check out the shopping section for us to digest the food.

Something den caught Mr Love's eyes. BBQ chickie backside(七里香). Talk about gross!! Eat backside of a chickie? No way. He went ahead and brought 1 though and threw it away after the 1st bite. Nope, he was not disgusted, just that the taste/flavoring is not to his liking only.

We walked to the shopping section after this, and from here, I didn't manage to take any photos as I was busy shopping. Brought a few tank tops with some special design on it. It was only 8SGD. I didn't dare to buy much as it was free size and I am afraid I am not able to fit it, just wanna try it 1st b4buying more.

The sky is just getting dark and crowd are filling up already. There are some mobile street vendors along the shopping belt and they will swiftly close shop once there are inspectors coming. I was super amazed by their ability to open and close their shop in record time.

Didn't really buy much from here as the style here dun really suits me. Its more Jpop n Kpop inspired and I don't think I am at the age where I can carry off the look. Nevertheless, it does not hurt to window shop. I came across Mayuki, the online shop my ex colleagues were so crazy about and went in to take a look. Brought nothing but its nice to see see look look.

We spent like 2 hrs walking thru the shopping section and after that decided to go off as there is nothing to buy here. But as we are walking back towards the food section I saw another small lane by the side and decided to check it out. Brought a dress there and continue to walk further in. There are more food stalls here than clothes and I was captivated by a stall that sells fried milk.

Dunno how they manage to fried the milk cubes and it would not melt. The end product looks like fried fish ball but really got a milky taste to it. Personally, I dun really like the taste of it, so I took 1 and left the other 2 for Mr Love to finish up.

The stall name...

Awaiting to be fried..Mile cubes

Mr Love eating the leftover 2...heheh

We then move on further down the street to check things out. Seems like there are quite a lot of things on this side of the street too. Mr Love said that he have not been here during the past 3times he had visited ShiLin.

We came face to face with a street that sells pets. There are like 101 stalls insides selling all kinds of dogs, which freaked me out totally cause I am afraid of dogs. On top of it, there are lot of people viewing the dogs, I'm scared that they will leap out of the hands holding them.

Could not remembered whether they are other kinds of pets sold here as I am busy trying to stay out of the way of the dogs. We took a brisk walk around the stalls and left the place quickly.

Once on the street, my eyes went to the food stall again. Something caught my attention. I saw fish balls!!They called it 鱼蛋 instead of 鱼丸..I brought the spicy fish ball and it tastes much better than the fried milk cubes. Hubs didn't eat cause he didn't like fish balls.

Spicy fishballs...yummu yummy

We walked back to the food section and hubs decided to have another chickie chop again, but this time, the queue is scary. Hubs say its the norm but surprisingly the queue moved pretty fast.

Check out the queue..Super long can...

Close up of the chickie cutlet...

We decided to check out the underground mall at Taipei station since it is still early. Also we need to help Mr Love's colleagues to buy some Korean pop band CD, we couldn't find in Shi Lin so came here instead. Finally found it and we went back to hotel at 10pm rest for the day.
